I have a real soft spot for black and white photography. There is just something about the appeal of it that's really hard to explain. Of course not every photo is suited to black and white, sometimes the colour is what a photo is all about.
Sometimes though, you want to emphasise something that has nothing to do with the colours, and this is probably more true for wedding photography than any other form - for example an emotional or funny moment where you don't want the added distraction of lots of different colours that compete for attention with what the photo is really about.
You can also emphasise the tonal range of an image when converting to monochrome in a way that's just not possible with colour, and it also adds a certain timeless quality to an image.
Anyway, these are my reasons for loving black and white photography. I'd be interested in hearing other views on the subject - all comments are welcome.
